Ages of care: We provide care for children 12 months to 6 years old.

Our curriculum philosophy: We strive to follow a constructivist approach to curriculum. Based on noted Early Childhood philosophers Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Maria Montessori, we emphasize developmentally appropriate, child-led, hands-on learning through play. Emphasis is placed on building trusting relationships and developing emotional intelligence and social skills. Teachers provide a rich environment with various toys and activities to stimulate children's imagination and learning. Teachers observe and interact closely with children to document and extend their learning.

Our classrooms: The classrooms are organized around age and developmental groupings so that your child can share experiences with their peer group. We also offer staff-to-student ratios that are higher than required by Washington State.

  • Caterpillars: Young toddler- (12~24 months)

  • Heffalumps: Toddler (20~32 months)

  • Dragons: Older Toddler/Young Pre-K (30~42 months)

  • Busy Bees: Mixed Pre-K (3-5 years old)

  • Magic Butterfly: Pre-K (4-6 years old)

We are fortunate to have a large outdoor playground and easy access to places like the University of Washington campus for walks.  On very rainy or cold days we also have an indoor play area downstairs.

We are closed on all major holidays and for in-service days. See our Calendar page for closure dates.

Caterpillar Room
Young Toddler

The Caterpillar Room is the youngest toddler classroom. It is where children get to learn about themselves, build strong relationships with their teachers and get to know their peers. We work to meet their needs and not our schedule. We work to find the routines that work best for the children in an environment of respect and trusting relationships.

Dragon Room
Older Toddler / Young Pre-K

The Dragon Room is our young Pre-K & oldest toddler room. Children in this class are between 2.5 and 3.5 years old. As a transitional space between toddler and preschooler, this is where young minds take exciting leaps forward. Our caring teachers provide a nurturing environment that encourages independence and fosters a love for learning. Through age-appropriate activities and hands-on exploration, children build essential cognitive, social, and emotional skills, preparing them for the next stage of their educational journey.

Magic Butterfly Room
Pre-K

The Magic Butterfly Room is a Pre-K room serving children who will soon be entering Kindergarten. In this room our teachers capitalize on children’s natural curiosity to learn about the world around us. Our caring teachers ask questions, investigate our environment and work together. Children learn about each other and how to communicate with their peers. They get to practice working with groups so that they can be successful when they enter Kindergarten.
